Not every shop with a woman’s name has an actual woman behind it. Heidi Klein, the authority on perfectly fitting swimwear, has two. Since 2002, co-founders Heidi Gosman and Penny Klein have been steering what is now a go-to beachwear brand for fashion-smart holidaymakers. ‘Making women feel fantastic on holiday’ defines Heidi’s love of swimwear so who better to offer advice on what to wear to make you look fantastic?

General advice on choosing swimwear? ‘Know your body and what fits you well, and then select a few pieces that work for you. Take time to find out what works best to flatter your shape. And, before you go shopping, get a fake tan! This way, you’ll know what colour looks good on your skin when you’re brown from a week in the sun.’

Are you shaped like an hourglass? Lucky you. ‘A top with hidden support and low cut out bottoms help emphasise a small waist. Bandeau bikinis are fabulous for showing off curves; padded cups offer extra boost. A low hipster bottom can flatter a flat stomach.’

Are you pear-shaped? ‘Draw attention to the bust with padded cups or subtle detail up top to create cleavage. Below, choose a classic fitted bottom. For a straight petite frame, go for a piece that creates an illusion of extra shape. Tie side bottoms with simple detail and skimpier cuts such as triangle and bandeau shapes flatter a petite body. A padded top with frills or detail will draw attention to the bust.

Are you a square? ‘Go for an elegant tie-side bottom or one with subtle embellishment to give the illusion of curves. Go for a delicate bandeau with middle ties, or a bright print to liven up the silhouette.’

Inverted triangles. ‘A top with under-wired support and a padded cup will give the right amount of lift. Halter straps are great to create an illusion of smaller shoulders. Add some tie side bottoms with some detail to accentuate the bottom half.’

Apples. ‘For apples, the aim is to create an illusion of the waistline. A control one piece is ideal as it provides a great amount of all-over support. A halter top with side-boning also provides support in the bust area. Add a pair of classic bottoms that fit in the crease line.’
