Secondhand is one of the most popular avenues of consumption for the ethical fashionista – and what’s more beguiling than pre-loved designerwear? Founded by Hamburg-born London resident Cecile Gaulke, Rebelle is a platform for selling and buying beautiful clothes that makes the whole shebang a darn sight easier. A concierge service means they hold products for you and authenticity is rigorously checked.
The site has just expanded into Scandinavia, Holland and Italy. To mark the occasion, Rebelle invited five pan-European ‘super’ bloggers to put together a summer outfit from the site’s selection. UK blogger Candice Lake (@CandiceLake) is photographer; the models are Marie von Behrens (@marievonbehrens) from Germany, Janni Deler (@jannid) from Sweden, Nima Benati (@nimabenati) from Italy and Noor de Groot (@missnoordegroot) from The Netherlands.
‘I’m obsessed with buying and selling pre-owned luxury pieces,’ admits Candice. ‘Not only is it environmentally friendly, it is also incredible for finding pieces that you kicked yourself for not buying at the time; or for acquiring a piece, like a little Hermes Kelly bag. I love the idea that something has been on a journey with one person and instead of being discarded, it gets a whole new story with you.’
All the bloggers are accomplished street stylers. Candice’s own style secrets? ‘Bold statement pieces mixed with classic staples,’ she says. ‘I tend to start with the statement piece and work backwards. I like to wear pieces I feel comfortable in while experimenting a little. That’s key: have fun but don’t divert from your style. Because I wear such bold pieces I keep hair and makeup minimal and natural – except for a shock of red lips.’
Finally, for emerging bloggers, Candice has a few tips on scoring the perfect selfie: ‘A smile and being true to your personal style helps,’ she says. ‘Obviously great light and a clean background doesn’t hurt to make a great photo, although if the subject is confident, this makes a killer image.’
