Fashion Revolution launches Fashion's Future
Fashion Revolution, the global movement campaigning for systemic reform of the fashion industry with a focus on the need for greater transparency and sustainability, launches a new free online course for people wishing to learn more about the fashion industry’s impact on people and planet, what the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are, and how they are intrinsically linked.
The 4-week course is completely free and run entirely online – so anyone, anywhere can join. The course was specially developed by Fashion Revolution so that participants can learn more about the fashion industry’s ecological impacts as well as its involvement in Fairtrade, international development and the global goals.
Throughout the massive open online course (or MOOC), subscribers will hear from some of the world’s foremost organisations and experts including Greenpeace, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, UNICEF and the Fairtrade Foundation as well as first-hand accounts from former child garment worker and trade unionist Nazma Akter.
Upon completing this course, students will have the knowledge and ideas to contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through their own purchasing habits.
“Whether you label yourself as a fashion professional, an activist, a student or simply someone that is interested in all of the above, this course will be both insightful and thought provoking,” says Sarah Ditty, Policy Director at Fashion Revolution.
“Amongst other things, you’ll learn about global fashion supply chains, how they work and how they can have a more positive impact on people and planet. You’ll tackle the issue of gender equality, women’s empowerment and how it links to the clothes we wear and decent work and economic growth. You’ll leave knowing more about what this means in the global fashion industry and what we can do to support good working conditions.”
The course has been designed to facilitate Fashion Revolution’s 'Be curious, find out, do something' approach. Visit the course page on the FutureLearn platform and follow the steps. The course is completely free of charge and open to all.
