Raf Simons’ Isolated Heroes series placed 1999 model casting shots from David Sims’ book of the same name on tees, sweats as here, £360, and cotton bags to poignant effect, providing perfect canvases for the hopes and dreams of lost youth.
‘Ladies jacket’ seems a modest appelation for this short sleeved, empire line top, £840, by Comme Des Garçons. Comme’s beautiful SS16 collection referenced everything from a rustic aesthetic to 19th century tailoring and still looked utterly contemporary.
Colour is so rare in ‘cool’ clothing that this crisp cotton men's shirt, £555, by Junya Watanabe Comme Des Garçons Man, sewn with jewel-toned patchwork, is a breath of fresh air. His patchwork denim captured hearts and minds four seasons ago and he hasn’t finished with it.
Finnish designer Heikke Salonen’s resurrection collection, Deadstock, uses patchwork applique, handstitching and raw edges to create pieces that throb with meaning. London-based studio Toogood, by Faye and Erica Toogood, celebrates the ‘individual/worker and craftsmanship in everything we do’, Faye Toogood once told Dezeen. That 'everything' can include sculpture, furniture, installations - and stonking acccessories, like this waxed cotton Editor bag, £495.
Romance, death, functionalism and craftmanship dance side by side in these opulent square derby shoes, £875, by Cherevichkiotvichki, a unique label by Lithuanian uber-creative Victoria Andrejeva. ‘Cherevichkiotvichki’ (don’t try to pronounce it) means ‘shoes by Victoria’ in old Slav.
US-based artist Alice Waese uses architectural cuts, tactile details and natural influences across her jewellery and clothing. Looking as if it’s emerged, ready-made, from deep within the earth, seemingly rough-hewn carved sterling silver ring, £705, is the perfect example.
Founded 2013, Atelier Bâba offers a conceptual footwear for women, suffused with history, made through craft techniques in rarified natural materials. That's a lot to love in these unlined suede zipped ankle boots, £875.
Lanvin’s SS16 trainers are knock-outs but whilst mainstream stores played it safe with the black and navy versions, Hostem went with the white, accented with over-sized bright blue, yellow and emerald green applique flowers. Wear with anything for ever.
Rick Owens’ pieces always pose a challenge to the conventional male - and I still don’t quite understand why. These dark grey drop crotch shorts, £330, with drawstring fastening offer everything you need for a twisted summer.
